An Unexpected Encounter
Pumpkin was walking through a meadow on a cool fall evening. She fluffed her feathers and fur up to the cold breeze. I should have put on my sweater. She thought. Then, she saw a flash of a soft yellow in her peripheral vision. She stopped and looked over, seeing another Ribina! She seemed to be observing the stars from the meadow.
Pumpkin decided to go over and see who this Ribina was. Trotting over she called out, “Hello there!” The other Ribina paused and looked over, seeming surprised if not a bit startled. The other Ribina cocked her head to the side.
“Hello,” she called back, “I didn’t think I’d see anyone else out tonight!” Pumpkin, now having a better view of the other Ribina noticed it was Starra, the mascot of the Ribina species.
“Neither did I.” Pumpkin chuckled a bit. “I’m Pumpkin! Nice to officially meet you Starra.”
“Pleasure to meet you Pumpkin, what are you doing if I may ask?” she inquired, curious as to why the other Ribina was out on a cold night such as this.
“Out on a walk! I’m quite fond of fall nights, though it is a bit colder than I initially thought!” Pumpkin fluffed her feathers a bit more for emphasis. “What about you?”
“Star watching!” Starra replied instantly. “Would you like to join me?” she offered.
“Sure, why not. Might as well share this night with someone else.” She smiled softly and sat next to Starra, preceding to look at the stars. She doesn’t often just sit and enjoy the sky like this. This is nice. She thinks after a few minutes of sitting in comfortable silence with Starra.
After a while, they both decide it’s gotten a little too cold, and they’re tired. They say their goodbyes and head home. This was a good night. Pumpkin decided. She hoped Starra felt the same about tonight as she did.
