Orbit's Source
You were having a normal day when there was an unsettling feeling. Casting your gaze upwards, you witnessed a strange glow expanding across the sky.
“What… what is happening?”
Though everything appeared normal around you, the anomaly in the sky nagged at your senses. You had a sensation that the glow is caused from the Orbit’s Lair. But then you realized, it’s supposed to be closed right now.
“Something is wrong…”
Though everything appeared normal around you, the anomaly in the sky nagged at your senses. A hunch whispered that the glow emanated from the Orbit’s Lair. But that couldn't be right; it was supposed to be closed at this hour.
“Something is amiss…” you muttered, a knot of worry tightening in your stomach.
Without hesitation, you hurried towards the Elder’s Lair. As you approached, the cave exuded a different atmosphere, and the once sealed doorway now stood open.
Should I proceed?
Taking a deep breath, curiosity mingled with apprehension as you cautiously ventured inside. Upon entering, you noticed an immediate change: the strange carvings and symbols on the walls lacked their usual luminescence. Unlike your previous visits to Orbit’s Pearl, the symbols now seemed dim and lifeless.
Advancing towards the center, you sensed a palpable difference. There, before the pearl, stood a figure engaged in conversation.
“Yes, Orbit.” The figure said.
You have never encountered this person before, yet an unsettling sensation prickles at your senses, hinting at their non-human nature.
“Who’s there?” the figure inquired, its voice carrying an air of authority that chilled you to the bone. Caught off guard, you instinctively sought refuge behind a nearby wall, but a powerful force seized hold of you before you could evade detection.
“Don’t attempt to conceal yourself. I am aware of your presence, mortal,” the figure declared, effortlessly drawing you out from your hiding place until you found yourself suspended in the air before them.
“What brings you to this place?” it demanded, its tone conveying a mix of curiosity and warning. Stricken with fear, you struggled to find your voice, unable to articulate a coherent response.
“Do not meddle in affairs beyond your understanding,” the figure admonished sternly, its gaze piercing through you.
Summoning your courage, you managed to muster a trembling inquiry. “Who… who are you?”
The figure, identified as Dareth, regarded you with a measured gaze, a glimmer of impatience flickering across its features.
“I am Dareth, and I have duties to attend here. Who are you, and what purpose brings you here?”
After a moment of contemplation, you cautiously proposed, "Lower me to the ground, and then we can talk."
Dareth hesitated briefly before complying, causing you to land with an undignified thud. "Ouch! You could have been gentler," you grumbled, rubbing your sore backside. However, Dareth merely chuckled, seemingly unfazed by your discomfort.
"Now, tell me," Dareth prompted, his expression expectant as he awaited your explanation.
As you recounted what you had witnessed, Dareth listened intently, his gaze never wavering. When you finished, he offered a knowing smile.
"I understand. You are the first to cross my path. I was merely carrying out a task assigned by Orbit," Dareth revealed, his tone cryptic as he glanced briefly towards the pearl before returning his attention to you.
"However, the nature of this task is confidential. Do not inquire further."
He paused, allowing his words to sink in before continuing.
"As for the glow you witnessed, it is a consequence of the task I am currently engaged in..."
Another pause, then a mischievous glint sparkled in Dareth's eyes as he posed an unexpected question. "Would you care to delve into the history of the Orbit's Lair? To witness its creation and unravel its secrets?"
His proposition left you stunned, grappling with the sudden turn of events. Despite a nagging sense that it might be a trap, curiosity ignited your mind like a flickering flame in the dark.
"Orbit will reveal its history to you," Dareth uttered before suddenly vanishing, leaving you standing alone in the chamber with the luminous pearl. An inexplicable pull drew your gaze towards it, compelling you to approach despite the warning bells ringing in your head.
With each step, the sensation intensified, urging you forward until you stood before the pulsating orb. Your hand trembled as you reached out, fingers inching closer until they made contact with its smooth surface.
It..was a mistake…
